JD_ Subject Teacher Job Title: Subject Teacher Report To: HOD (Head of department) Department: Academic Department Location: China World Academy (Changshu) General Description of the Position: CWA subject teachers provide high-quality teaching from Grade 7 to Grade 12, ensuring the effective use of resources, and improved standards of learning and achievement for all students. Additional pastoral and extracurricular requirements will exist in addition to their responsibilities as subject teachers. Teachers are responsible to the Leadership Team (Head of Dept & Principals) and are under their supervision. Expertise and experience in specific assigned course curriculum are assumed (i.e., IGCSE, IBDP). Main duties and responsibilities Planning and Setting Expectations: • Set expectations for students and the school in relation to standards of student achievement and the quality of teaching. • Collaborate with all department staff to ensure teaching is set to match students’ needs. • Contribute to, with the involvement of the relevant staff, short, medium and long term plans for the school and department development • Identify realistic and challenging targets for student improvement • Clarity regarding actions to be taken, timescales, and criteria for success • Diligently follow the scheme of work for each class as approved by the Head of Department, ensuring alignment with overall curriculum goals. • Work with the relevant coordinator or team to develop and maintain the curriculum for grades 7 - 12, ensuring vertical articulation to prepare students' knowledge and skills for studies for IB. • All science faculty members are expected to participate in the implementation of the STEM curriculum. Teaching and managing Student Learning: • Curriculum coverage, continuity, and progression in all areas for all students, including those of high ability and those with learning support needs • Collaboration and reflection on teaching and learning methods are used to meet the needs of the department and of all students • Setting and marking students’ work accurately and promptly, giving additional guidance and work according to their needs. • Ensuring he/she is fully aware of all the school’s policies relating to students and act accordingly to protect and enhance the physical and emotional welfare of the students • Effectively teach a variety of assigned classes, adapting to different student needs and contexts. • Supervise extended essays or IA in the subject area as required. • Provide regular and appropriate feedback to students to guide their learning progress. • Provide personal tutoring to students during scheduled office hours. Assessment and Evaluation: • Analyse and use data to identify program weaknesses, for the purpose of strengthening these weaknesses • Establish and implement clear practices for assessing, recording, and reporting on students’ achievement, and for using this information to recognize achievement and to assist students in setting targets for further improvement • Ensure that information about students’ achievements in previous classes and schools is used effectively to secure good progress in their development • Reflect on ones own teaching practices and use this analysis to identify areas for improvement and take action to improve the quality of teaching • Working with the Principals and Head of Dept to be responsible for standardization of assessment, grading, and moderation of such within the department • Write reports and testimonials for students as needed, ensuring compliance with the deadlines set. • Utilize platforms such as Yungu and Manage Bac to accurately maintain and update student records and progress data. Relations with parents and the wider community: • Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with parents, students, leaders, external agencies, and the wider community Managing own performance and development: • Prioritize and manage own time effectively, particularly in relation to balancing the demands made by teaching and involvement in school development • Take responsibility for his/her own professional development by utilizing professional growth planning Managing resources: • Establish resource needs and advise Principals and the Head of Dept of likely priorities for expenditure, and allocate available resources with maximum efficiency to meet the objectives of the school and department planning • Ensure the effective and efficient management and organization of all learning resources Others: • Adhering to all other policies and procedures of the School as approved by the Board or the Head • As the role of homeroom teacher or advisor to liaise with parents and students and other departments in school to ensure smooth communication and implementation. Support child protection policy and implementation and provide pastoral care to all students. • Performing other reasonable duties assigned by the school, including but not limited to lessons planning,
